“Pardon of Assisi”

We have a plenary indulgence today!

During his Angelus message back in August 2 2009, Pope Benedict XVI said:
In fact, today is the feast of the “Pardon of Assisi,” which St. Francis obtained from Pope Honorious III in the year 1216, after having a vision while he was praying in the little church of the Portiuncula. Jesus appeared to him in his glory, with the Virgin Mary on his right and surrounded by many Angels. They asked him to express a wish and Francis implored a ‘full and generous pardon’ for all those who would visit that church who ‘repented and confessed their sin.’ Having received the papal approval, the Saint did not wait for any written document but hastened to Assisi and when he reached the Portiuncula announced the good news: “Friends, the Lord want to have us all in Heaven.” Since then, from noon on 1 August to midnight on the second, it has been possible to obtain, on the usual conditions, a Plenary Indulgence, also for the dead, on visiting a parish church or a Franciscan one.

St. Francis of Assisi loved the Portiuncula, the chapel of St. Mary of the Angels. The Benedictines had given this chapel to St. Francis and his early followers. It was their first home. St. Clare made her vows there.

The usual conditions to obtain the Portiuncula Indulgence include sacramental Confession and Communion within 8 days, the visit to the parish or Franciscan church, and prayers for the Holy Father.

Prayer to Our Lady of Mercy – St. Augustine of Hippo

Blessed Virgin Mary,
who can worthily repay you with praise
and thanks for having rescued a fallen world
by your generous consent!
Receive our gratitude,
and by your prayers obtain the pardon of our sins.
Take our prayers into the sanctuary of heaven
and enable them to make our peace with God.

Holy Mary, help the miserable,
strengthen the discouraged,
comfort the sorrowful,
pray for your people,
plead for the clergy,
intercede for all women consecrated to God.
May all who venerate you
feel now your help and protection.
Be ready to help us when we pray,
and bring back to us the answers to our prayers.
Make it your continual concern
to pray for the people of God,
for you were blessed by God
and were made worthy to bear the Redeemer of the world,
who lives and reigns forever.

Amen.

Consecration through 7 Our Fathers, Holy Mary, Glory Be.

Into your hands I abandon my past, my present, and my future.
Help me to forgive others as You forgive me.
Today is a new start for me and I long to be formed into your heart.

Say 7 Our Fathers, 7 Hail Mary, 7 Glory Be.

I place my Trust in You for You are the Very Mercy my heart has long for.

Consecration to Divine Mercy

In reading this, I consecrate myself to You. I receive and wash myself in the blood of Christ, and I renounce all sin. I take my position at Your side as Your bridal partner and apostle of Mercy. I recognize and acknowledge the covenant You have made with me which has been sealed by your very precious blood. I know that everything that is Yours has become mine and everything that is mine has become Yours.  My debt and lack has become Yours and Your fullness and completeness has become mine.  I acknowledge this and appropriate what You have given us through Your full payment at the cross.

Help me to forgive others as You forgive me.

I promise to be spread your Mercy by my deeds, words and prayers. I promise to venerate our Mercy through the fives ways which You have laid out to St. Faustina Kowalska. Though I fear my human weakness, I rely on Your infinite goodness and mercy.

To you I entrust all my hopes and consolations, all my trials and miseries, my life and the end of my life. I entrust to You my body and soul, my spiritual progress, my prayer and sacrifices, my good deeds, my spiritual struggle, my health, my family, my friends, my profession, and all the material goods that I posses.

Into your hands I abandon my past, my present, and my future.

From this day forward, I present my home and my family to be protected by your Mercy from all the evils in the world today.

Today is a new start for me and I long to be formed into your heart and the heart of your Mother.

By your most holy intercession and by your merits, may all my actions be directed and disposed according to your will and the Will of your Divine Son.

By your most holy intercession and by your merits, may my joys and suffering count towards the conversion of souls and specifically for __________.

I place my Trust in You for You are the Very Mercy my heart has long for.

Show Mercy To Others

FrontPage2

You are to show mercy to your neighbors always and everywhere. You must not shrink from this or try to excuse or absolve from it. I am giving you three ways of exercising mercy toward your neighbor: the first – by deed, the second – by word, the third – by prayer. In these three degrees is contained the fullness of mercy , and it is an unquestionable proof of love for Me. By this means a soul glorifies and pays reverence to My mercy” (Diary, 742).
